Postcard of the day. Early in the morning, the mountains are wreathed in etheral valley fog. The soft light and the wispy fog in this picture will always remind me of Niigata.

Carl and Hoshino-san look at some of his tosai. The skin quality is really wonderful, and there's so much to choose from!

Carl and Hoshino-san look at the older fish. The great skin of the tosai has turned into stunning shiroji in the 2,3,4 and 5 year olds.

Photographing and measuring is quite a production. It took the more than 5 hours to get today's great photographs.

Masahara Hoshino's father, Shosaku Hoshino. Masahara Hoshino is the 4th generation Koi Farmer in Niigata.

I know you folks back on the East Coast of the USA think you have snow. But Niigata got more overnight too! It looks more like a road cut through rock rather than a snow bank! The clean sides cut by snow blowers clearly show the layers upon layers of snow that have fallen this winter.

Did we mention snow barriers? There seem to be an endless variety, and they sure hold a LOT of snow from falling down the mountain!
