Day 8, Saturday, October 19 cont'd
Once the corral is complete, they pick up the koi, load them in buckets, and bring them up to the trucks.

Hosakai inspects the fish…

...he starts the wind up...

...and he lobs the fish into the tank!

Down to the last few.

The kids are inspecting the tank. They give their dad a sign of approval.

They pull the net back out through the water to clean it before packing it away. They work together like a well-oiled machine, and it's amazing to watch.

Back at the greenhouse, they sort and treat the koi. Some, which the breeder deems as tategoi, are immediately hidden, not to be seen until next year.

Here's a jumbo that we harvested earlier in the day that I just couldn't leave without. A tategoi tancho showa with marvelous white skin, perfect motogoro, and it might be ready in another two years. It's going to be fun to watch this one develop.

Two pictures of probably the world's best Ai-Goromo. I really, really wanted to take it home, but I didn't want my banker to have a coronary.

A close-up shot. Wow!
